Melissa Manchester To The Rescue

Melissa Manchester, a timeless singer with an exquisite voice, performed a phenomenal concert on April 27 that benefited Lulu’s Rescue, an all-breed inclusive dog rescue.

Lulu’s Rescue has saved more than 3,500 dogs from death row and helped provide these wonderful animals with loving homes. A dog-lover herself, Melissa agreed to do the show to support the great work this non-profit does and to help raise funding and awareness so it can continue its noble mission. As the proud parent of two cats (one of them – Penny – is sitting on my lap as I write this!) and a lover of all furry friends, I’m thrilled with what Lulu’s Rescue has accomplished, and I’m glad Melissa agreed to do this important benefit concert.Melissa’s set consisted of a dozen delightful songs. She kicked things off with the appropriately titled “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head” from her latest stellar album, The Fellas, and followed that up with the gorgeous “Through The Eyes Of Love.” Additional Manchester hits included “Midnight Blue,” “Come In From The Rain,” “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” and more.

One of the highlights was Melissa’s spectacular interpretation of “Be My Baby,” which had the crowd singing along during the chorus.

Melissa also performed a new song that I hadn’t seen her sing live before entitled “A Better Rainbow,” and the crowd loved it. A couple songs later, Melissa had people’s jaws on the floor with her mind-blowing scat singing during “Love Is Just Around The Corner” – another killer cut from The Fellas. Her singing was so impressive during this song, I was exhausted by the time she was done. It was a remarkable feat met by a thunderous ovation.Following the concert, Melissa took photos with fans and autographed albums. I made sure to have Melissa sign two albums that I brought with me, and we spoke at length about a variety of topics. I’m very fortunate that I’ve had the opportunity to develop a friendship with Melissa over the past couple years and it’s not something I take for granted. She’s a special individual and an artist of the highest order whose music continues to inspire me, as well as millions around the world. This benefit concert exceeded all expectations and it supported an excellent cause. If you love animals like I do, I urge you to donate your time and/or money to Lulu’s Rescue. This organization is saving lives and bringing love into people’s homes, in the form of four-legged fur babies. You should also see Melissa Manchester live as she will stun you with her musical virtuosity. And pick up a copy of The Fellas – it’s fabulous!
