Doug Bradley’s Spinechillers Volume 10

As you’ve probably read by now, I’m writing a book — two, in fact! This means I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like to, but I still make time for a little here and there. One of those books is Doug Bradley’s Spinechillers Volume 10, another terrifyingly terrific entry in this horror audiobook series from Renegade Arts Entertainment.

One of the reasons I love these audiobooks is their brevity. They aren’t a huge time commitment. The stories are bite-sized, and the audiobook only takes three hours to listen to in its entirety. For my schedule, that’s wonderful news.

Volume 10 kicks off with Doug Bradley’s well researched insight into the stories and their authors, followed by H.P. Lovecraft’s evocative tale of exploration: The Strange High House in the Mist. Next we hear Ambrose Bierce’s truly chilling A Diagnosis of Death, and Jeffery Combs reads Edgar Allan Poe’s classic revenge tale The Cask of Amontillado. Other notable stories include Rudyard Kipling’s tale of ghosts, They, and Arthur Conan Doyle’s New Catacomb, which is the tale of a heartbroken lover’s revenge. Jeffrey Combs delightfully narrates part three of Herbert West’s Reanimator, and the iconic Robert Englund rounds off this volume with his sublime reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Sleeper.

As with other recent entries in this lauded horror audiobook franchise, the listener is treated to a variety of narrators, all of whom are exceptionally talented. Their impassioned deliveries coupled with the exquisite writing is a feast for the ears.
