What was your dream job as a child?

What was your dream job as a child? Kids say the craziest things, so I’m sure many of you had unusual aspirations at a young age. Read for my answer to this question and let me know yours.

As a child, I remember telling my parents, “I want to be a trash man when I grow up.” They said, “Why?” And I responded, “So, I can ride on the back of the truck!” Now you know what a child thinks would be a fun occupation and why.

When I got older, I considered becoming a sports broadcaster, delivering play-by-play for baseball games. I quickly abandoned this idea when I stopped watching sports. But my fascination with people manipulating their voices to sound a certain way manifested in my taking voice lessons years later. Music and singing are still a massive part of my life and identity.

I eventually studied and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in communications, a field in which I’ve worked for more than 15 years. I’ve taught communications as a professor and plan to do so again soon, and I write daily.

I went from garbage to writing. I hope no one thinks my writing is garbage, but you can’t please everyone. How about you? What was your dream job as a child? Did you pursue it? And how did that dream change (if at all) over time? Regardless of what job you dreamt of as a child, I hope you do something you love.
