There have been so many excellent video games in 2023. It has been one of the best years in gaming history. However, there have been some stinkers along the way. Below are three of the worst video games available on Xbox this year.
A Shambling Mess — The Walking Dead: Destinies
The Walking Dead: Destinies is a game that should never have been made. It is a dull and ugly disaster that wastes the potential of the TV show it is based on. It claims to let you change the fate of the characters from the show, but it fails to deliver any meaningful consequences or choices.
Instead, it forces you to endure terrible graphics, bland combat, boring missions, and countless glitches. It is a game that is more likely to make you scream in frustration than in fear. It is a game that is not worth your time or money. It is a game that is a biohazard to the gaming industry.
A Disappointing Journey Through Middle-Earth — The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a disappointing game that does not justify its choice of protagonist. Gollum is not a compelling character to play as, especially compared to the previous games in this franchise that offered more action and variety. The game is filled with tedious tasks, bland and frustrating platforming, and poor stealth mechanics.
It is hard to imagine who the target audience for this game is, or what the developers wanted to accomplish with it. The game does not offer any fun or challenge, and it does not add anything new or interesting to The Lord of the Rings lore. The only reason to play this game is if you are a very curious and devoted fan of the series, but even then, you might regret it.
A Monstrous Disappointment — Skull Island: Rise of Kong
Skull Island: Rise of Kong fails to deliver any excitement or innovation in its gameplay. The game is plagued by poor graphics, glitches, and tedious mechanics that make it feel outdated and dull. The combat is mindless, the platforming is pointless, and the game does nothing to stand out from the crowd of action games.
The game is not even enjoyably bad, but rather boringly bad. It does not have any humor, creativity, or charm that could redeem its flaws. It does not challenge or engage the player in any way. It is a game about a giant ape that does not even capture the sense of scale or power that such a creature should have. Skull Island: Rise of Kong is a game that does not care about itself or its players.
