Sonic the Hedgehog is one of those cartoons that helped me heal my inner child. Not to sound overly dramatic, but I love this movie franchise so much that I’ve binge-watched the entire series so many times that I lost track of counting. That said, even though I already have the satisfaction of finishing the entire franchise, I’ve always found myself wanting more. That’s why I tried looking for movies that are somehow similar to what Sonic the Hedgehog gives me.

Wreck-It Ralph
Wreck-It Ralph was one of the few animated movies I really enjoyed watching back then. It’s about Ralph, a video game villain who wants to be seen as a hero. Like Sonic, the movie is full of fun adventures, which is one of the biggest reasons people love the Sonic franchise, too. To give you an idea of what this movie is about, it’s more about friendship, finding purpose, and the most important one is that you don’t have to fit the role others expect you to play. That’s a beautiful lesson that we need to learn as we grow up.
Bumblebee
I remember watching this movie with my family on a TV streaming service. It’s about a robot from a different planet who ended up on Earth, where it meets a teenage girl named Charlie. Just like Sonic, Bumblebee is an outsider trying to fit in while also saving the day. The entire movie also has a lot of action, with friendship being at the center of the story. I became really emotional while watching this movie, so just a heads up, prepare your tissue box just in case!
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is one of those movies that feels super random, like, literally, why would food fall from the sky? But for me, that’s what made it so fun. The story mainly focuses on an inventor who accidentally creates a machine that turns weather into food. Just like Sonic, the movie is super fast and straightforward, but it’s filled with weird scenarios… well, in a good way.
The Incredibles
We cannot miss The Incredibles now, can we? This legendary family of superheroes has been a favorite for years, including mine. It’s literally a straight-up story about a superhero family who tries to live an everyday life while secretly saving the world. It has a lot of action and fun scenarios that will keep you entertained the whole time. So if you’re one of those people who loves movies about family and superheroes, you’ll love this. Since it’s a relatively old movie, it might even be airing on traditional TV, like on DISH TV deals.
Chicken Little
The first time I watched Chicken Little, I didn’t actually expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It seemed like a simple movie at first, but it turned out to be really fun and meaningful. Basically, the movie is about a small chicken that’s trying to save his town while fixing his relationship with his dad. Just like Sonic, he’s misunderstood at first but proves that he’s braver than everyone thinks.
The Bottom Line
If you’re someone who loves Sonic too much, like me, I’m sure you will enjoy these movies as much as I did. Well, they wouldn’t be able to give you the same feeling that Sonic does, but they can provide the same vibe and adventure that makes Sonic so special.
