What are the pros and cons of procrastination? Yes, that’s right: pros and cons. Read on for my thoughts and share yours.
Most of us think of procrastination as a harmful habit. Someone who constantly puts off tasks that matter — essential goals and responsibilities that should not wait. And, yes, you could argue that procrastination delays rewards and can create problems. But what’s the upside to procrastinating? Read on.
Humans are emotionally driven. As sophisticated and cultured as we think we’ve become, our emotions drive us. Why do people cheat on their spouses, buy garbage food last-minute in line at the grocery store, or gamble more than they should? Emotion.
People are emotionally compelled to make bad decisions — lots of them. Procrastination can help control our emotional decision-making. How? By taking more time to think about what we’re about to do — procrastinating — we present the opportunity to rethink choices that could haunt us. Of course, you could use that time to continue putting off good decisions. But instead, try and use it to delay or eliminate bad ones.
What are the pros and cons of procrastination? Let me know your thoughts on this interesting question. Don’t procrastinate on sharing your point of view until tomorrow because tomorrow is promised to no one.

I haven’t written my post yet, but I agree that it really depends upon how you define “procrastination”. If you use it as a way of just not facing or doing something – it’s probably bad. However, I agree that sometimes not sending that e-mail or letter immediately, but leaving it until the next day to read and sometimes edit it is a good thing. If I have time that is my preferred way of working: I may write the answer immediately, but not send it until the next day or maybe a little longer whilst I think about what I’ve written – sometimes it’s better than I thought and sometimes I just groan at the stupid mistakes.
