Today’s Bloganuary post is based on the prompt: “If you could un-invent something, what would it be?” Read on for my answer.
I’ve always said that electricity is the greatest invention of all time. Without it, everything would cease to operate: cell phones, computers, medical equipment, refrigerators, etc. The world would screech to a halt.
I certainly wouldn’t un-invent electricity. However, I would un-invent cable TV news. Ever since the dawn of CNN, news has become infotainment. Unbiased journalism was sacrificed for ratings.
As more cable news channels emerged, they divided audiences with polarizing views. Then, politicians started to regurgitate the liberal or conservative messaging pumped out 24/7 on these channels, and they continue to do so on and off camera.
The United States of America is anything but united. We are divided in a disheartening and unbelievable way, and it all started with the launch of cable TV news. It’s a sad truth, and I hope we right this wrong at some point in the future.
