Review: Johnny Mathis’ The Voice of Romance Box Set

To celebrate more than 60 years of Mathis magic, Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings released The Voice of Romance: The Columbia Original Album Collection, a 68-CD box set containing all of Johnny Mathis’ Columbia albums and much more.

All of the albums have been remastered and many of them include previously unreleased bonus tracks. Additionally, 25 of these albums are being made available on CD for the first time ever, including the previously unreleased album I Love My Lady (with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards). As if that wasn’t enough, all 68 of these CDs are housed in a gorgeous box replete with a 200-page booklet filled with extensive liner notes. The cherry on top is a numbered golden ticket that is autographed by Johnny Mathis.Clocking in at nearly 50 hours, The Voice of Romance: The Columbia Original Album Collection is the ultimate Johnny Mathis collection and no fan of his music should be without it. Ever since I received this beautiful box set, I’ve listened to more Johnny Mathis music than ever before and it has provided me with a deeper appreciation for his one-of-a-kind voice and prolific artistry. Johnny Mathis truly is “The Voice of Romance” and this box set does a masterful job of celebrating his spectacular musical journey.
