Here’s the official synopsis:

The ultimate love story continues in Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s spellbinding sequel to The Phantom of the Opera.

This story of boundless love, full of passion and drama, follows Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, one of the most successful musicals of all time, which has now been seen by more than 130 million people worldwide and is the winner of over 50 international awards.

Love Never Dies is a dazzling new production, which takes audiences on a thrilling rollercoaster ride of intrigue, obsession, and romance. Be seduced by the beautiful; sometimes magical and poetic; sometimes joyful; and occasionally melancholic score. Don’t miss this magnificent continuation of one of the world’s greatest love stories.

While I’ve seen countless classic musicals over the years, I’ve never experienced Phantom of the Opera live. However, I made sure to familiarize myself with the story so I could go into Love Never Dies understanding what was going on. I’m glad I did because it made this musical much more enjoyable. The opening song “‘Til I Hear You Sing” is the best in the show and Bronson Norris Murphy’s vocals in this number are phenomenal. It’s the definition of a showstopper and I was happy to see it reprised throughout the musical. Meghan Picerno was impressive as well, and the supporting cast was highly entertaining, especially those in Mister Y’s Phantasm – a demonic circus that conjures up images of American Horror Story: Freak Show. Love Never Dies is a moving show with beautiful sets, an immensely talented cast, and a compelling story. Make sure to see it while you can at the Academy of Music.
