2020: A Year To Remember

This time last year there was a lot of uncertainty in my life, both personally and professionally. Heading into 2020, I was hopeful that the year ahead would bring me good fortune and opportunity. Thankfully, I was correct. I had two amazing opportunities as a professional, and I personally had a great deal of good things happen too. However, what none of us could have anticipated was that a global pandemic would hit — and it hit hard.

I know a couple people who contracted and died from COVID. Out of respect for those around me, including family and friends, I’ve kept my distance from practically everyone for nearly the whole year, wearing masks, sanitizing, and staying home the majority of the time. Once a vaccine is available, I will gladly receive it. I will also continue to follow CDC guidelines because doing so has kept me and those around me safe this entire time. We’re not home free just yet, but we’re getting there.

My wife and I have been supporting local businesses, especially restaurants, by buying meals, desserts, and gift baskets from them, in addition to dining out in warmer months. In difficult times, it’s important to do what you can to support one another, whether it be emotionally or financially because we’ll only get through this together.

One of those professional opportunities I spoke of earlier was secured on a completely virtual basis. It’s wild to think about this now, even though it will probably become the wave of the future. The first professional opportunity started off in-person and shifted to being online when COVID hit. The fact that I was fortunate enough to be chosen for either of these opportunities is something I don’t take for granted. I’ve only worked with smart, creative, and supportive people all year long, and I look forward to continuing to do so in the months and years to come.

As for this site, I’ve written 160 posts, not including this one, and I shattered my all-time record for readers by 10%. I currently reach thousands of people in 145 countries, and my YouTube channel is on the cusp of surpassing one million views. I read 45 books this year and reviewed many of them right here on my site. I also reviewed countless movies, video games, music, and more. I interviewed musicians, wrestlers, authors, and pop culture icons. I’m sure you noticed a significant shift in the amount of pro wrestling content I’m writing. There’s a couple reasons for this. One, my passion for pro wrestling has been reignited. And, two, I’m working on my most ambitious project yet, and it’s in the realm of professional wrestling. Stay tuned for all of the details in 2021!

2020 was a year of change and standing still at the same time. All of us were impacted by the pandemic, the election, and so much more. I hope I was able to provide you with even a modicum of entertainment or joy through my writing. Arts and culture is more important than ever, and I value them even more now because of what we’ve gone through. I can’t wait for the days when I can return to live concerts, wrestling events, musicals, and more. As always, through all of life’s highs and lows, I will continue to write because that’s what I do. I thank you for being along for the ride, and I can confidently say that the best is yet to come. 2020 was a year to remember, but it’s time to say “goodbye” to it. As the clock strikes midnight, let’s jump forward into a year that I sincerely hope is better for all of us. I wish you nothing but love and happiness in 2021!
