We view games, especially those you experience from a screen, as solely living in the recreation world. But that’s not necessarily true. Even games designed for fun can be great for helping us think laterally through concepts, though, of course, some are better than others.

In a world where you can enter virtual reality and feel like you are inhabiting a world filled with terrifying zombies or beautiful, otherworldly planets, it’s easy to dismiss traditional games like chess or Scrabble without a second thought, but you know what? Just because we’ve gone online doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the rich, engaging experiences of the traditional games that our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents loved so much. You can play most of them digitally online, making it even more convenient than ever.
