Book Review – The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts

img_1196The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts, which is being released on February 21, contains over four-hundred pages of fully-realized illustrations from the entire thirty-year history of The Legend of Zelda, including artwork from the upcoming Nintendo Switch and Wii U release, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This beautiful book includes rare promotional pieces, game box art, instruction booklet illustrations, official character illustrations, sprite art, interviews with the artists, and much more.

It’s a great companion piece to Dark Horse Books’ previous Zelda hardcover book, The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia. However, unlike that book, this one is focused on imagery over words. Yes, there are several interviews with Zelda artists in the back of this new book; but the majority of it is comprised of artwork in various forms. It’s a beautifully-presented visual encapsulation of this storied video game franchise and a great way to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
