Bloganuary: Living a Long Life

Today’s Bloganuary post is based on the prompt: “What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?” Let’s talk about this idea.

I’ve always said I want to live to be 125 as long as I’m mentally sharp and feel well. Two of my grandfathers lived to be nearly 100 years old, so my odds are pretty good.

Some people don’t want to live a long life. I think that’s strange. I can give you a million reasons for living a long life: family, friends, travel, books, music, movies, video games, and more. There are an infinite number of people to engage with and activities to participate in if you have an open and curious mind.

Health is the most critical part of the equation. I regularly practice yoga, take vitamins, eat high-quality food, and keep my mind sharp by learning, teaching, writing, reading, singing, and absorbing and engaging with various art forms. I always stay busy.

Betty White and Angela Lansbury (and now Dick Van Dyke) lived long lives because they stayed busy. They didn’t waste away in old age. Instead, they were more active than most people a fraction of their age. I intend to do the same because engaging the mind and body daily is the best way to live a very long life.

  1. Totally agree with you. As long as you still stay capable (physically and mentally) to enjoy the good things in life it’s always worth living as long as possible.
