Night Ranger Rocks Philly

Night Ranger is one of my favorite rock bands, ever since I first saw them on KISS Kruise III. I also firmly believe that they are one of the most underappreciated bands, as they have written, released, and performed countless songs that feature killer riffs, harmonies, and hooks that rival nearly anything their peers have put out. This is why I always make it a point to buy the band’s newest albums and see them live when they’re in my area, which they were last Friday night.
Prior to Night Ranger hitting the stage, I had the opportunity to visit them in their dressing room for a quick meet and greet and photo opportunity. Afterward, my friend and I thanked them for their time and generosity and we headed to our seats. One of the things I love about Night Ranger is that they continue to record and release fantastic albums, and they’re not afraid to play this material live. The band kicked off their show with “Somehow Someway,” a barn burner from their 2017 album Don’t Let Up. The guys also performed “Truth” off of the same album and they filmed the performance for a new music video, which is pretty cool.

My favorite Night Ranger song is “When You Close Your Eyes,” and their rendition of this classic didn’t disappoint.

As you can see from the setlist below, other time-tested hits were included as well, such as “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me” and “Sister Christian.”

Other highlights included a powerful performance of “Goodbye,” which Jack Blades wrote about his brother who committed suicide, as well as “Sing Me Away” and the Damn Yankees classics “Come Again” and “High Enough.”Night Ranger had the crowd on their feet for nearly the entire show. People were smiling, clapping, and singing along the whole time. And those around me talked about how it was one of the greatest concerts they’d ever been to as we filed out of the room. I agree. Every time Night Ranger performs, I’m constantly marveled by their high energy, positivity, and musicianship. If you’ve never seen them, buy a ticket. If you have seen them, go again. I know I will.
