Movie Review: Jerry & Marge Go Large

Jerry & Marge Go Large is a Paramount+ original movie that is inspired by the remarkable true story of retiree Jerry Selbee (Bryan Cranston), who discovers a mathematical loophole in the Massachusetts lottery and, with the help of his wife Marge (Annette Bening), wins millions and uses the money to revive their small Michigan town. Is this movie worth watching? Read on for my review.

After checking out the trailer for Jerry & Marge Go Large, I felt compelled to watch this movie. Bryan Cranston is always excellent, and Annette Bening is a phenomenal actress who we don’t see in enough roles these days. Together, their chemistry is palpable. The supporting actors, including Rainn Wilson and Michael McKean, rounded out a strong cast that made me feel like I was a visitor in their small town.

The premise of this movie, of an older couple finding a loophole in the lottery system, is a fascinating one. While they are do-gooders at heart, Jerry & Marge Go Large has antagonists and features conflict. These characters and moments add a level of depth to this warm, humorous film. Moreover, this movie examines what it means to live a fulfilling life and be a compassionate, supportive member of your community.

This is the first Paramount+ original movie I’ve watched, and I was very impressed by it. Paramount produced a top-tier movie with a well-written screenplay brought to life by A-list actors. It made me smile, laugh, and think about life. The ingenuity of this real-life couple is remarkable, and it’s a story worth experiencing for yourself. Considering Paramount+ offers a free trial, you have no excuse not to watch Jerry & Marge Go Large. It’s a lovely film that I highly recommend.
