From unboxing an awesome press kit with my four-year-old son to turning heads on Halloween dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 to logging hours on the Xbox hunting down mischief in every corner of the house, our family has been living and breathing The Cat in the Hat: Rainy Day Mayhem. In this post, I’m sharing our full unboxing video, snapshots of pure preschooler gaming joy, and an honest review of Casual Brothers and Outright Games’ latest release—breaking down why this Mario Party-style romp is an absolute must-play for Dr. Seuss fans of all ages. Read on for my full thoughts and to see if the Cat brings the right kind of chaos to family game night!
Our household is a Dr. Seuss house through and through. But more specifically? We are utterly obsessed with The Cat in the Hat.
My four-year-old son absolutely adores everything about the Cat. We read the classic books at bedtime until the pages are practically worn thin, stream the animated specials and TV shows on repeat, laugh our way through the nostalgic Mike Myers movie, and devour just about everything in between. We even already have our tickets locked in for the upcoming new Cat in the Hat movie!
So, when a special package arrived on our doorstep containing a press kit for the brand-new Xbox release of The Cat in the Hat: Rainy Day Mayhem—a huge thank-you to Outright Games!—my little guy was over the moon.

Unboxing the Mayhem (and Winning Halloween!)
He could hardly contain himself as we sat down to open the box together. As you can see from our unboxing video, it was an absolute blast to go through. Outright Games went above and beyond with this press kit, and days later, my son is still running around the living room playing with the toys that came inside it.
Even better: the kit included Thing 1 and Thing 2 shirts, which my wife and I wore for Halloween while trick-or-treating with our son. They were an absolute smash hit! A ton of people we passed on the street stopped to comment on them and told us how much they loved the look. It set the perfect mood for jumping into the game itself.
Casual Brothers Delivers Again
I came into this with pretty high expectations. I’ve been a big fan of Casual Brothers’ recent titles published by Outright Games, and I’m thrilled to report that Rainy Day Mayhem does not disappoint in the slightest.
At its core, the game plays like a vibrant, accessible, Mario Party-style party game, packed with a wide variety of mini-games that are varied, colorful, and—crucially for parents of preschoolers—super easy to understand.
What makes it work so well is that the concept feels completely true to the source material. In the original 1957 book, the Cat arrives specifically because it’s cold and wet outside and the kids need games to play on a boring afternoon. Framing the entire video game around that exact premise is just brilliant.
Between story mode levels, the game has you exploring and searching the house to track down the mischievous Cat. Searching every nook and cranny is a delight on its own, but it gets even better because you get to unlock collectible stickers and open up even more mini-games as you go. For a four-year-old, hunting down those stickers provides that instant gratification that keeps little eyes wide with excitement.

Final Verdict: A Must-Play for Seuss Fans
As you can see from the photos of my son playing the game, he was completely overjoyed. Seeing his face light up as he recognized familiar sights and sounds from one of his favorite stories made my gamer-dad heart melt.
In fact, we fired up the Xbox and played it together again today. Honestly, the hardest part of the entire experience is trying to get him to stop playing and come to the dinner table!

If your household has a soft spot for Dr. Seuss, or if you have little ones who can’t get enough of The Cat in the Hat, I can’t recommend Rainy Day Mayhem enough. It’s charming, faithful to the books, and easily one of the best family couch co-op romps we’ve played all year.
