Formula Legends: Iconic Tracks DLC – Everything You Need to Know

Whether you’re a longtime reader of the blog or just joining me for the first time, you probably know my relationship with Formula Legends for Xbox has been a bit of a rollercoaster. As I said in my original review, this is a game that is “gorgeous to look at, but tough to love.” It lures you in with that stunning, retro-stylized aesthetic and then punches you in the gut with a simulation-heavy engine that demands absolute perfection.

Since then, I’ve tracked the game’s evolution through the Raw Power Pack and the experimental Tech Power Pack. Now, developer 3DClouds has released the Iconic Tracks DLC, and I’ve spent the last few days trying to master these new (yet very familiar) circuits.

A Journey Through Time

The standout feature of this $4.99 pack is how it handles racing history. Instead of just giving us a handful of new turns, the DLC focuses on three specific locations, offering different era-appropriate layouts for them:

  • Austria: This is the crown jewel of the pack. You get three versions: Vintage, Classic, and Modern. Racing the vintage layout—inspired by the old, high-speed Österreichring—is a terrifying thrill. It’s fast, sweeping, and reminds you just how brave those early drivers had to be.
  • Malaysia: A nod to the beloved Sepang circuit, this comes in Classic and Modern forms. The “umbrella” grandstand and those punishing long straights are captured perfectly.
  • Bahrain: Only available in its Modern layout, but it’s a welcome addition that brings a different strategic challenge to the late-game calendar.

The Difficulty Dilemma

True to the Formula Legends brand, these tracks aren’t just for sightseeing. Each one presents a fresh set of “simulation puzzles.” Because this game isn’t an arcade racer, you can’t just floor it through the Austrian hills.

The new layouts require you to rethink your ERS (battery) management and braking zones entirely. The vintage Austria track, in particular, punished me more than once for being too aggressive. If you don’t respect the physics of these historic layouts, you’re going into the barriers.

Seamless Integration

What I appreciate most is that these aren’t just standalone tracks for Time Trial mode. They are fully integrated into the Career and Story modes. One of my gripes with many racing DLCs is that the new content often feels like an afterthought, but here, it enriches the “Racing Through History” theme that makes Formula Legends unique. Seeing these tracks pop up in my career schedule made the $5 entry fee feel like a steal.

Final Verdict

If you already own Formula Legends and you’ve managed to climb the steep learning curve of its simulation mechanics, the Iconic Tracks DLC is a no-brainer. It adds significant longevity to the career mode and offers a genuine sense of historical progression that few other racing games provide.

It still won’t hold your hand, and it’s still just as “tough to love” as ever when you spin out on the final lap of a wet race in Malaysia. But for those of us who appreciate the art of the perfect lap, these iconic circuits are the best canvases we’ve been given yet.

Score: 8/10
