Is LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight the Best Batman Game Ever Made?

Batman has always been my absolute favorite superhero. Hands down. Out of all the caped and cowled figures in comic book history, he’s consistently been the most fascinating to me. He doesn’t have alien superpowers; he has unmatched drive, brilliant detective skills, and an unparalleled psychological complexity.

But let’s be honest: a hero is only as good as his rogues’ gallery, and Batman has the absolute best villains in fiction. I have always loved his antagonists, especially the Penguin and, of course, the Joker. And while there have been many incredible interpretations over the decades, Jack Nicholson in the 1989 film will always be the definitive, gold-standard Joker for me.

That deep-seated love for the lore is exactly why my expectations were sky-high for TT Games’ latest release. And yet, it completely blew me away.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for Xbox is, without a doubt, my favorite game of the year so far, and it easily stands as one of the greatest Batman video games ever made.

A Celebration of Every Era

As the name beautifully implies, this game is a massive, brick-built love letter to all eras and iterations of the Caped Crusader. Whether you grew up on classic comics, gritty modern cinema, or animated series, your Batman is represented here.

For me, the absolute highlight is how it honors the Tim Burton era. Slipping into the world of the 1989 movie—my personal favorite Batman film of all time—is pure nostalgia fuel. Seeing those specific gothic aesthetics, the classic suit, and the iconic vehicles translated into the charming LEGO style puts a massive smile on my face every single time I load up the game.

Gotham City is a Playground

What makes Legacy of the Dark Knight work so well is the perfect balance between its narrative and its sandbox. The core missions are everything you want from a modern LEGO title: compelling, action-packed, and bursting with that signature laugh-out-loud humor.

But the real magic happens between those missions. Exploring the open-world Gotham City is an absolute joy. TT Games has crafted a living, breathing block-built metropolis that begs to be explored.

Hunting down hidden collectibles on the gloomy streets or high up in the skyline never feels like a chore. The loop of unlocking new outfits, discovering classic vehicles, and finding secret nods to DC history makes for an incredibly satisfying and addictive experience.

The Verdict: 15+ Hours in and Just Getting Started

I’ve already spent more than 15 hours diving into this game, and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. There is still so much more to experience in the main story, and the sheer amount of side content means I easily see myself spending countless hours savoring every epic minute of this game—not just this year, but for years to come.

It is easily my favorite video game of 2026 so far. Whether you are a hardcore protector of Gotham, a casual fan of the films, or just someone who loves the pure fun of LEGO video games, this is a title that everyone should play.
