Remembering Sean Connery

It was reported today that Sir Sean Connery died at the age of 90. He will forever be remembered as the original James Bond, playing a pivotal role in launching the pop culture phenomenon that is still going strong today. As a lifelong Bond fan, I’m thankful for his immeasurable contributions to the series. Moreover, I appreciate Sean Connery for the countless roles he played outside of 007. He wasn’t a one-trick pony. Rather, this skilled Scottish actor was a chameleon who could embody a wide range of characters that swept us away with wonderful stories for nearly 60 years.

Everything Or Nothing: The Untold Story Of 007

October 5 was Global James Bond day, marking the 50th anniversary of one of the most popular film franchises ever. One of the ways the occasion was celebrated was with the world premiere of Everything Or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 on EPIX, a documentary chronicling the tumultuous history of Bond on and off the screen. It’s a well done production that had my rapt attention for the entire 98 minutes, and I highly recommend you see it. While it will more than likely be released on DVD/Blu-ray in the future, you can watch it for free by going to EPIX’s website and registering for a free trial. To give you a taste of what’s in store, below is the trailer and a couple of clips.

007: James Bond Turns 50

Advertisements

The name’s Bond, James Bond, and he turns 50 this year with the release of Skyfall in U.S. theaters on November 9. Daniel Craig, the sixth man to play James Bond, will reprise the role for what’s sure to be another edge-of-your-seat action film. To celebrate five decades of Bond, this fall will see the release of the entire film franchise on Blu-ray as well as the new video game 007 Legends. Furthermore, you can smell like Bond with the recently released fragrance James Bond 007, and starting September 28, Christie’s is having an online auction featuring Bond memorabilia.

The eternal debate among fans of the films is who was the best Bond? Many argue Sean Connery, but my favorites – because picking one is too hard – include Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Who’s your favorite Bond? Vote in the poll below and make your voice heard.

Take Our Poll

Below is an excellent, fan-made video compiling 50 of the greatest moments from the franchise. It’s a treat to watch, so enjoy.

I was glad to hear that Daniel Craig signed on to be Bond for at least two more films. Below is the trailer for the upcoming film, Skyfall.
