Audiobook Review: Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution

If you’ve been following my recent posts, then you know I’ve been doing Atkins and seeing terrific results because of this lifestyle change. I find it fitting that I decided to get into Atkins in 2022, the 50th anniversary of Dr. Robert C. Atkins’ seminal book that brought the low-carb approach to millions of people the world over. Below is my review of the updated version of Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution, released in 2002. The audiobook, which is what I’m reviewing here, came out in 2004.

Publisher’s Summary

The phenomenal bestseller—on the New York Times bestseller list for an extraordinary SIX YEARS—Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution is still the safest, easiest, most effective weight-loss program available!  You’ve tried all the rest—from the Beverly Hills Diet to the South Beach Diet—Atkins is the proven one, the weight-loss plan that works!

My Thoughts

This is the book that got me hooked on Atkins, and I listened to the audiobook version on my Downpour app twice (so far). I also purchased the Kindle version, and I’m devouring that as well. As someone who comes from an Italian family where carbs are an expression of love, this was an eye-opening experience. Everything Dr. Atkins describes is logical and makes perfect sense. And having seen numerous documentaries about how our agricultural system is corrupt and broken, it’s no wonder that Americans have gotten addicted to carbs. What have carbs given us in return? Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and an entire plateful of other ailments. Since Dr. Atkins’ untimely demise in 2003 as the result of a fall, what he espoused has become widely embraced and accepted by millions of people, as well as those in the field of nutrition. If you’re looking to live a longer, healthier life, this abridged audiobook is a terrific appetizer to the world of Atkins.
