I had the pleasure of interviewing Peter Atkins, the man who wrote Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III, Hellraiser: Bloodline, and Wishmaster. We talked about his work on the Hellraiser franchise, including the 30th anniversary of Hellraiser III, the upcoming Hulu movie, and the HBO TV series. We also talked about what it was like working with two masters of horror: Clive Barker and Wes Craven. Peter shared his thoughts with me on Doug Bradley, Nightbreed, his books, including his new release this fall, and much more. Today, I watched The Wrestler for the first time since it came out nearly 11 years ago. It is still a fantastic movie. It’s very much the pro wrestling version of Rocky Balboa, an equally fabulous piece of cinema that is gritty, authentic, and overflowing with emotion.

Remembering Sean Connery

It was reported today that Sir Sean Connery died at the age of 90. He will forever be remembered as the original James Bond, playing a pivotal role in launching the pop culture phenomenon that is still going strong today. As a lifelong Bond fan, I’m thankful for his immeasurable contributions to the series. Moreover, I appreciate Sean Connery for the countless roles he played outside of 007. He wasn’t a one-trick pony. Rather, this skilled Scottish actor was a chameleon who could embody a wide range of characters that swept us away with wonderful stories for nearly 60 years.

TRI Screening in Philadelphia

TRI Poster originalThis Wednesday, August 31, TRI, an award-winning indie film, is screening at the Trocadero theatre in Philadelphia. I just finished watching this movie, and I enjoyed it. The film, which recently walked away with the top prize at the Northern Virginia International Film & Music Festival, features local talent Jensen Jacobs and Kelly Spitko in starring roles. However, I’d argue that the two most compelling actors were played by Shawn Pelofsky and Kenneth Simmons. Their supporting roles provided TRI with additional layers of emotional depth that were believable and moving.
