As someone born in the 1980s, my childhood was filled with hours spent playing Nintendo and watching cartoons. Some of those cartoons included He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Inspector Gadget. These cartoons, among others, captured my imagination and conjure up great memories. Totally Awesome: The Greatest Cartoons of the Eighties, a beautiful hardback book from Insight Editions, celebrates all of these cartoons, and more, with exceptional behind-the-scenes insights from the people who brought these shows to life. It is all lovingly presented with vivid imagery and delightful inserts that will bring a gleam to your eye and a smile to your face. Creating The Filmation Generation is a fascinating autobiography by Lou Scheimer, one of the original founders of Filmation, an animation studio that produced He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Fat Albert, Star Trek, Mighty Mouse, Tom and Jerry, Batman, and much more. TwoMorrows Publishing is behind this book and it’s a quality read through and through. It takes the reader from 1928 up until 2010, just three years prior to Scheimer’s death. In addition to the insightful text, this book features great photos, posters, and imagery befitting an animation icon.
