Movie Review: Jobs

Jobs Movie PosterWhat It’s About

This movie is about the life and career of Steve Jobs.

What I Like

What impressed me most about this film is Ashton Kutcher; he was excellent in his role and I have newfound respect for his dramatic acting capabilities.

I also enjoyed this movie’s soundtrack – it was awesome. Any time a film features music by REO Speedwagon, Cat Stevens and Toad The Wet Sprocket, it’s going to bring a smile to my face.

What I Don’t Like

I wish the film included the last few years of Jobs’ career. The closest we get to that is a scene where Jobs unveils the iPod to Apple employees for the first time. It’s a cool moment, but what about the launch of the iPhone and the iPad? And what about his health struggles at the end of his life? To me, this was a missed opportunity.

Bottom Line

Despite its minor shortcomings, Jobs is a highly entertaining film that almost anyone will enjoy. If you come into it with an open mind about the subject matter and the lead actor, you’ll feel satisfied by the time the final credits role. I highly recommend it.

My First Shatisms

20121102-083559.jpg

Below are my first Shatisms using William Shatner’s brilliant new app: Shatoetry. The app allows you to put words in Shatner’s mouth and have him recite them back to you. Dramatic pauses can be added between words, as well as three different variations on each word – with each one sounding more emotionally charged than the last. The current list of words is long enough to create some hysterical phrases and future app updates will include words packs for holidays and special occasions. The app also has a co-op mode, on and offline, where you and another “Shatoetist” can create a Shatism together. In addition to being able to download your creations, Shatoetry lets you share your Shatisms in a variety of ways, including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and email. While it’s initially only available for iOS devices, an Android version is in the works.

WWE Launches Flagship App

Being a lifelong fan of pro wrestling, I was thrilled to hear that WWE launched its flagship app this morning for iOS and Android devices. After trying it out on my iPad and iPhone, I have to say it’s very good. It provides a central location to access all things WWE; everything from video clips of classic matches to tweets by current superstars. While there’s room for improvement, this is a big step in the right direction. If you’re a fan, I recommend you check it out right away.
